Many unprofessional writers start off with unnecessary prologues, get bogged down by a scattered backstory with what happened in the past. 

Whether it is the book or your year, don't get caught u too much about what happened in the past; It's done. All we care about is whats happening on THIS PAGE or what is about to happen on the subsequent pages.
